Pomfret, Connecticut The Inn at Fox Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast in Pomfret, Connecticut
The Area

You could not find a more perfect spot for relaxing or exploring the New England countryside. Wander through the rolling hills and green pastures that make up the rural landscape of Pomfret. Stroll by centuries old stonewalls and gentle streams that bore witness to Colonial Connecticut. There are still fourteen working farms in Pomfret and if you visit us in spring or summer treat yourself to a local favorite, We-Li-Kit Ice Cream, made fresh on their dairy farm.

Connecticut's Northeast quadrant is known as The Quiet Corner. Rich in history, relics of its lively past remain plentiful here. Dappled on town greens and country roadsides are the historical churches, and pre-revolutionary homes of the 18th and 19th centuries. Museums and antique shops contain testaments to a simpler time.

Two centuries after the War of Independence, you can rediscover historic heroes, visit their farms, and follow the path of the Continental Army on the Revolutionary Road. The National Register of Historic Places designates Wolf Den State Park, the Pomfret Street Historic District and Brayton Grist Mill to name just a few.

Whatever your outdoor interest, whether it is long walks, bird watching, hiking, biking, golfing or cross-country skiing, you can indulge yourself in Pomfret. October in New England has always been known for the fall colors on brilliant display. And from your private dining area you have a front row seat to watch the flocks of geese and that use our lake as a rest stop on their way south. Along the miles of hiking and biking trails are footprints of some of the forest animals that call the land home. A closer view of the wildlife is easily arranged with a visit to the Audubon Nature Sanctuary. During the winter, cross-country ski for miles on the Airline State Park Trail, a former railroad line. (We'll have warm hot chocolate waiting for you when you return!)

The countryside is dotted with award winning wineries, gourmet restaurants, charming country stores and antique shops. Call ahead for a dinner reservation at The Harvest restaurant or arrange a visit to Sharpe Hill Winery on the Connecticut Wine Trail. Antique shops abound. Hunt for treasures at over 400 antique dealers in nearby Putnam and each year the nearby Brimfield Antique Fair (the largest antique fair in the country), draws thousands of professional and amateur collectors.
